I've used Macs professionally and Lawrence is right. Many (not all) applications are in fact self contained apps (which are just folders with executable + Metadata + resources)
Dude I've shipped two commercial games onto Macs...
I just downloaded Braid from Humble and correct me if I'm wrong but it doesn't seem to install anything. It just runs the launcher and subsequently the actual game when I run the executables contained in the app.pic.twitter.com/39Hwa0j1zL
It is certainly possible to do things more cleanly on MacOS than on Windows. My point was that the "drag to Applications folder" is not a bare copy; it runs installers if present. (You can get away without them for now; you can do that on Windows too, it's just much harder,
and starts to become impossible depending on what you link with. MacOS is going down that same road, it was just cleaner for longer).
Much respect but i'm talking .dmg. provides a checksum on copy. so maybe it's as simple as possible no simpler. signing and everything else apple is doing is bs but i can't think of a simpler (secure) idea for install than copying 1 folder over with an auto-checksum.
