Would you be willing to serve without pay for 6 hours (4 hrs + 2 hrs training) to count votes or observe the count on Election Day 2020? Please comment on reasons. Thank you.

This is a straw man. If you ask, no one opposes an exception 4 voters w/ disabilities. But the security risks are too great to deploy electronic ballot marking devices 4 universal use, regardless of need, as some have recklessly & successfully advocated.

I posted this bc I would post it if members of Trump’s campaign created such an app. I don’t believe this was deliberate (there is hand marked paper backup), but it undermined voter confidence & is hopefully a learning moment. No more unnecessary tech in elections!

Networks want results in prime time. Do we NEED that? Are we THAT impatient? As a nation, we'd better weigh the annoyance of waiting ONE DAY against the swirl of illegitimacy when votes are counted and aggregated by computers in pitch-dark cyberspace. @FederalHandCount2020?

Why the insistence on "rapid reporting of results"? E.g., if election is Nov. 3 and those elected won't take office till January 20, WHY can't we get the results Nov. 4?? That is, WHY can't we count observably in public by hand? Is it because elections are now a MEDIA PROPERTY?

Won't use the hashtag mark but the Mayor Cheat stuff is bullshit. Stop it. I like Warren and Bernie as my candidates, but no one cheated, no one rigged anything. That hashtag very likely is being pushed by the GOP, too, to divide Dems. So stop helping them.

“The firm behind the app...is Shadow,” which “started out as Groundbase, a tech developer co-founded by Gerard Niemira & Krista Davis, who worked for the tech team on Clinton’s [2016] campaign...” This was so unnecessary. They didn’t need the damn app.

Exactly. Has it become like people who get used to GPS navigation and completely lose their own sense of direction so they get lost going to their neighbor's house if the GPS breaks down?

I'm quite the cynic when it comes to vote-counting skulduggery. But hard to fathom the party ("they") would slit its political wrists at this point to stage-manage an outcome. Not impossible but a lot of other potential saboteurs AND an untested system that just may have choked.

I'm hoping that the chaos of IA Caucus will bring attention to the problems you and other election integrity/security experts have been warning us about for so long. Competence matters; I hope other Dems beyond will speak to these issues.

Confirms my view that elections have become a *media property*, a kind of running Super Bowl, with the votecounts in primetime the most vital prop. Working on op-ed. 2/2

I don't think it's Trump's fault (amazingly . Not sure how it hands him the election. But note the national panic over what looks to be a 24-hr DELAY of results! No one's taking office, it's like who's leading at the first water-stop of a marathon. But we HAD to know LAST NIGHT?

Iowa isn’t a failure...it is a gift to see exactly why the WHOLE country deserves paper ballots for backup in each state & why electronic systems are not perfect & are fallible. This is a win for democracy. The press needs to relax.

What do Iowa and Georgia have in common? Both decided to use untested and insecure technology for the Presidential Primary. Iowa is a mess. - this is a teachable moment. Time for

I’m good w/ this. Officials have proven they are too irrresponsible to use voting technology. With just a few exceptions, there will be no meaningful manual audits in 2020, modems have not been removed, the location of remote access remains unknown, & humans can’t read barcodes.
