    Check out our new paper, led by PhD student , on the early alligator relative Diplocynodon hantoniensis, which lived in the UK nearly 40 million years ago. We demonstrate that fossil crocodiles had postcranial skeletons too... 🐊

    The remains of 'Holey' (right), a 42 year old, saltwater croc Brisbane, compared to a healthy saltwater crocodile (left). These deformities are a combination of cancer and arthritis. Premaxilla, ulna and metatarsals (foot). (Notice how the teeth sockets have closed.)

    It looks like they all want to be sacral vertebrae! Perhaps some kind of regionisational problem of the axial column? Interesting to think how it affected the animal's gait, the pelvis still looks symmetrical, so maybe it didn't affect it too much?
