Sweden & New Zealand actually have something in common: scientific advisors in both countries did not think a vaccine would be available soon enough, so they chose their final objective. Sweden chose trying to build immunity through letting virus go, while NZ chose elimination.

There was only ever one sane policy which was to keep as many people alive for as long as possible in the hope a vaccine would arrive eventually. Early hard lockdown and the closure of airports was the only way to achieve this. NZ did it right. UK did it catastrophically wrong.

Rob Garde:Highly likely to be a vaccine, probably more than one. The physical nature of this virus provides multiple targets for blocking it. Yes, we may still be unlucky but that is the wrong basis on which to proceed at this time.
