EEA is probably the best option now (and in fact at all points since the day after the referendum) but doesn't off the shelf EEA without the customs union mean a customs border in Ireland? So isn't the integrity of the UK still just as threatened with EEA?
No, though I do believe in that too. Article 349 would leave Ireland in the EU

But what benefit to Ireland? If I was them I'd probably ask for a £350m per week contribution from the UK to agree to that.
