The article says Dublin will need to re-evaluate in a few years time. Look at Ireland in 2006 and 2009. Life can happen fast

The same can be said for Britain and Brexit.

Indeed life can happen fast. 55% of Irish exports went to the UK at UK/IE accession in 1973. Today that same number is 13% (Belgium also gets 13%). Also, support for membership has always been strong in Ireland, whatever treaty proposals were on the table.

The EU is a uniting force in Ireland, not a dividing one as in Britain. And why Jonathan would Ireland want to leave the EU, just so it could be part of the UK again. We left for a reason in 1949.

Not sure how it would serve Irish interests to increase its dependence on the UK again. The Brexit process itself demonstrates the difference between an Ireland that has EU-26 backing & a Scotland being dragged out of the EU against the majority wishes of its voters.

1. UK is not federal so Scotland's vote is a union vote. 2. Did not suggest increasing dependence would. Keeping in a low corporation tax regime would.

Ireland’s vote would also be a union vote under your proposal. In such a situation, I’m not sure why Ireland would want that.

As I said, economics will drive it. The article points that out and that assumptions unification can only happen by the North leaving are a little supremacist if they scoff at the republic rejoining the UK.
