EHIC is for urgent care, not elective care. It was a stopgap from the time of the EEA when it took a few months to sort out social insurance. Now it can be done in hours. It was never for elective care
Prescriptions for everyday items are not the issue. Inpatient stay and emergency surgery are the issue.

Yeah (although if you have a chronic condition like hypothyroidism, epilepsy, or diabetes the prescription charges can mount up. But afaik the same (parity with locals) applies for emergency and inpatient costs.

Youd be exempted from UK prescriptions anyway, what medications do you think you´d suddenly need on a short trip? By their nature, chronic illnesses are managed electively.
