Irish border is too intermingled. Farms straddle border. Even an entire village is split by border. Impossible to put in a Canada-US style system into that landscape

It's really only an issue for lorries re: customs. French Swiss border makes that work.

Yes but Swiss-France border has very different geography too. There’s a wide number of lorry routes crossing Irish border (can think of at least 25 roads used by lorries currently) which would make this system unworkable as infrastructure is currently IMO

Well some roads could be closed to LGV and HGV traffic. For many bridges thats not unusual.
