We spend over one billion subsidizing sugar beet in the EU, now we're taxing sugar....to pay for that sugar beet subsidy...
@AjrMac If done as excise duty then i guess so yes. It will almost certainly go through the ECJ and be rejected as restraint of trade though

@JonMarcStanley do you think so? I know a few eu countries have this in place or have had. -
@AjrMac It restrains trade as it does affect all products equally, creating market distortions. A universal duty would not. Hence MUP banned
