UK Government have walked right into this trap, it seems (though you could argue UKG was obliged to do this if the Bill does indeed go beyond Holyrood powers). Regardless, manna from heaven for the SNP. But "Jaw dropping". Hmmm. This has been known about for weeks.https://twitter.com/NicolaSturgeon/status/1381636039392034816 …

Scott Wortley @Scott_Wortleyinteresting stuff. These are not, as I understand it, challenges which would strike down the whole bills but relate to specific provisions within them. My understanding re the UNCRC provisions is that the challenge relates to the imposition of duties on UK govt ministers https://twitter.com/GlennBBC/status/1381629964383092739 …Deze collectie tonen1 antwoord 5 retweets 16 vind-ik-leuksDeze collectie tonen -
It still amazes me (weeks after this issue came to light) that the UK Government did not find a way of kicking this issue into the long grass until after the election.

UK Gov pushing back after Nicola Sturgeon tweet. Source: "This delay to the legislation could easily have been avoided. Sadly, it appears the Scottish Government are more interested in stirring a constitutional row than getting the UNCRC bill into law at the first opportunity"

Deputy First Minister John Swinney says UK Gov legal challenge is "deeply menacing". “The only people who need fear this Bill are people who want to breach children’s rights."

Turn it around. The Scottish Government bungled a legitimate reason to make a request under Section 30 of the Scotland Act to make this change to the law using existing legislation. When this is thrown back at them they will look ridiculous. So too will their law officers.
Het laden lijkt wat langer te duren.
