9. it is not antinationalist to say stop being nationalist. It is not antiracist to say stop being racist. It is cruel to say to those who have lost and have lost hope of a better future that they stop being losers. It only insults and angers them and reinforces their view....

10. That those with the power to change things have no wish or need to. It's fine for them. The south of England, the Cantebury archdiosise in cultural terms, has never lost. It is doing well. Good for them, but that other half of England is not. doing well. So....

11. If you say you are English, and you neglect the North, be off with you. If you say you are British and neglect Glasgow, be off with you. You are not using identity as a shield for establishment and entitlement. No. We were in this together. We have not been for some time...

12. The answer is unionism by which I mean something specific. We lift each other up instead of pulling each other down. There will be peace, harmony and pride in these islands when we learn to share the opportunities and wealth. We need to look again to the stars not the ground.

Good thread this. The South West has got some of the poorest parts in England, where i grew (West Somerset) its the worst place to grow up in England if you’re poor. I honestly believe that some MP’s don’t know anything exists past Bristol.https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/20-worst-england-places-poor-11599027 …

Thanks Mark. The South West has London house prices and Northern wages. Those people have hearts of gold and the patience of saints. So much potential in a post-Brexit Britain. Those old china clay pits. The UK gov could cover them in solar panels. Perfect place and new use

I think the house prices in Devon and Cornwall is out of control because of the grockles who end up moving down. Somerset isn’t actually too bad (in places). But we’ve got very little infrastructure and transport links. I’m right in Exmoor so for me to get anywhere you HAVE to...

Know how to drive or you can’t get anywhere and that ruins any chance of getting a job (unless you want to work on farms). Yeah the old China clay pits in Devon and Cornwall is a good idea, especially if they’re going with the green revolution

Ive long thought a more progressive property tax to better fund local services is a way forward, while cutting VAT and duties. Much fairer.

That would be a brilliant idea. I don’t know if you’ve spent much time down this way, but from what your thread is about, a lot of counties in the SW fly the County flag, don’t know how much it happens around the country. But always see the county flags in SW

I know more about the Lakes really. I have spoken to many west country people, I cant claim direct experience but I listen. Counties are cool :)

Cumbria is mega. I remember doing the 3 peak challenge when I was in the army, and Lake District is a fantastic place. For such a small island we’re very lucky to have the places we do. We might have bad infrastructure down here, but I’ll never complain about being from here
