A 4% NHS pay rise is not a bribe. The SNP have read the room on this. There has been low wage increases in the NHS for a long time. Yes it means in theory less money to spend elsewhere, but one has to factor in the cost of the loss of staff to other sectors as the econ recovers.

So, stop whining. I'm happy to suppor the pay rise for NHS staff in Scotland. MPs took 11%, likewise MSPs have done well in recent years. Moving forward we need a broader range of staff and skills.

It’s stolen money. The UK provided massive funds to the Scot Gov. Instead of spending them on Covid relief they stole it to give to NHS workers How would you like if I stole your money to give to my friends?

"stole it to give it to NHS workers" Mate, who do you think has been doing the actual fight against Covid? Who has been working day and night to keep people from dying in intensive care?

I'm not saying the Scottish government handled the support of the economy well, they did even worse than Westminster. My issue is with the use of the term "stealing" to attack them for giving a payrise to ridiculously underpaid NHS staff...

Yup. It's a pay award that doesn't reverse a decade of below inflation pay rises. Spending is devolved. Fact is the gov can spend money on what it likes, knowing NI payments from biz and workers goes to WM. But sure be angry and shout bribe. That's REALLY going to rope in votes

Precisely. A good opposition will allow itself to also agree with the government, when it has done the right thing. Just because you fundamentally disagree with a party doesn't mean you can't acknowledge the times where they do make good choices, rare as they are.

Opposition were slating the SNP for only having an interim rise of 1% while talks were ongoing. SNP had to fold (assuming nurses accept 4%, they wanted 12) or keep holding cards until after May. They've spun well the choice they've made. That's it. England I'm sure will follow
