Many medical students want to drop out in the UK, in the first two years. Some get into the degree and realise it's not what they thought it was going to be like.
A combination of good grades and proven clinical aptitude via a generic health diploma / EN diploma would do this well. Even postgrads with no work experience get through now!

Was always so. I know of one Vice Dean who described himself as the only travelling salesman who stays in 5* hotels the client pays for.
