Many medical students want to drop out in the UK, in the first two years. Some get into the degree and realise it's not what they thought it was going to be like.
Oh God yes. And we need smart financing, almost a building society, to compete with Bank of Mum and Dad for buying into partnerships, clinics and pharmacies. Familial wealth drives a lot of this encouragement into professions. Working class students need a level playing field

A combination of good grades and proven clinical aptitude via a generic health diploma / EN diploma would do this well. Even postgrads with no work experience get through now!
