I think this is a great idea - if Denmark and Sweden can have a bridge between 2 countries why can't we have a bridge within the UK?

I think it's a bad idea :) A Grand Union tidal barrage across the Solway Firth though, enough for 5m people, I'd back that. For the North Channel, electric planes between Prestwick and Belfast.

Best solution, by far, is to build an Archimedes Tunnel. Personally, I'd run it Mull of Kintyre to Torr Head. That would open up Argyll coast for development and would make a car journey of Belfast to Glasgow about 2hrs, or less: it's this that would grow economic development.

Entirely personal - I hate tunnels! I get nervous when the traffic stops in the Clyde tunnel!

I take your point, but few would fancy a 26 mile long bridge during a winter storm. The tunnel idea really isn't a big problem: they do it already for Eurotunnel. If I were commissioning such a link, there would probably be 3 tubes with a mix of road and rail traffic provision.

Don't they have storms in the Baltic sea? Or are our storms worse?

Storms not the issue. Fixed link for low population not credible. NI needs lots of investment across the province really.
