Fundamental reason SNP MPs won't vote for brexit deal is they don't accept this is our future. Other MPs do. It's not wrong for Starmer to vote the way he is. The UK's future lies outside the EU. Scotland's future doesn't have to. Why would you endorse a future you don't want?

The irony is Scotland would have that deal with rUK if Scotland joined the EU.

Scotland would be on the good side of the deal then though, wouldn't we?

No. Given lack of deal of financial services Edinburgh would become a desert very quickly.

You don't think Edinburgh would benefit as an English-speaking finance centre within the EU?

How long would it take Scotland to join the EU?

I believe it might take 5 years, but I also believe a transition deal could be in place very shortly after independence giving us most of the benefits quickly.

It's unlikely to be as quick as 5 years. Scotland could not join whilst using the pound (the currency of another country outside the EU). Austerity would be a big problem - there would be less public money to spend and huge independence set-up costs.

If it is more than 5 years but we have most of the benefits of EU membership I don't see the problem.

An independent Scotland would not get a better deal in the EU on fish.
