I see people are musing again that Spain would block Scotland joining the EU "because of Catalonia". 1. This thinking comes from the fact that incumbent pro-UK MSPs are from lazy parties and therefore make stupid comments out of unconcious ignorance.

5. It does NOT recognize Kosovo as independent because this did not follow LEGAL process in Serbia. There is a pattern here for those who are not lazy.

6. If Scotland leaves the UK LEGALLY through a referendum because the Tories bottle it or are forced to offer one having repeatedly made it a campaign issue in Holyrood, Spain WILL recognise Scotland and WON'T block accession process. Oh, and....

7. It may still vote with everyone else on EUCO to make Scotland an EU member without a formal accession process if Scotland bends down far enough. That's not Scottish independence but that's a different matter. So

8. Spain would only block Scotland's accession to the EU if it did not recognise Scottish independence. It can and will continue to stonewall Catalan nationalists because it can and would LOL at why the UK buckled so easily. Seriously, do some history.

The problem with European History isn't the last for or five decades, its the last four or five centuries. All over Europe, there are national, sectarian and racial differences that could bubble up again and were not clever enough to know when or how to stop them.

Sure but end of the Cold War is pretty much given as a separate and current chapter in our history. Full of precedents. We can never say with certainty how Spain will behave but past performance is a good indicator. They've been very consistent. Consolidate Spain, Expand Europe
