There needs to be a party that is unashamedly pro-motor. Pro-petrol, diesel, turbo-charged freedom for the ordinary person. Damn those who would tax all but the rich off the roads. Same people who'd have ten workers in London living in one room. This isn't green, it's feudal.

The issue u are missing is that manufacturers Won’t be producing petrol by 2030 as they will be uneconomic... - govt doesn’t really need to set this target as the market will do it for them

That was my thought thinking the ban is purely PR. That being said... who’s to stop you importing a combustion engine car? The fuel stations will still trade for many years thereafter. You could by a new car 2029, and run it for 20 years... which is probably what I’ll do.

You won’t if an electric car is a lot cheaper to run - which it will be by the mid 2020s

By that logic, everyone would drive the cheapest to buy, cheapest to run, vehicle out there. It’s like fashion - some go for utilitarian brandless clothing, others spend £200 on a t shirt. it’s not about showing off. Not my style. But I like a nice car (to my mind)

By the way, I’d love to know where the raw materials are coming from to manufacture all these fuel cells for these electric cars millions will be buying.

China, Congo, where there are poor people to provide and not consume. Part of the same mindset. The world has few resources so price out consumption for everyone but the very top. That's the game. It's not subtle.
