In the UK the law remains in place that those infected with TB who refuse treatment can be arrested and imprisoned for the duration of their treatment. Has been the case for years. Is that law used? Hardly ever. That is the point, it is legal but rarely deemed reasonable.

As a policy forced quarantine has the obvious flaw that it will discourage people presenting for diagnosis. Insurance policies that discriminated unfairly against gay men by penalising them for ever being TESTED for HIV were deemed illegal and were a public health disaster.

I think the actions of the police in Australia and here, where they have, to be polite, suffered from over reach have not boosted people’s confidence. Similarly Australia allowing babies to die as they could not cross state lines does not fill one with confidence.
