Bottom feeding predation from Carlaw. The CMO needs to have consistency and as a medic they need to remain within professional competence. Calderwood should stay in post but hand over COVID19 portfolio to Whitty. We need continuity of care, not scalping.https://twitter.com/Jackson_Carlaw/status/1246799316993310722 …

I hate to say it but Carlaw is right -her entire job is to provide a scientific, technocratic counterbalance to the politician to ensure that the public keep to the advice -this is critical. Now she is political, hypocritical & anyone antiSNP will be itching to get out at Easter!

This is about continuity of care, not politics. Im a political medic. I can see both sides. This is about ensuring continuity at high level. CMOs are medically qualified civil servants. They do NOT counterbalance anyone.

In the eyes of a politicised public - her position is now untenable and the government advice is now there to be widely ignored. I’m not a political medic but I work in crisis management and this scenario is regularly gamed - but no one ever actually expects it!

In reality there comes a point where you can find your professional competence is exceeded. She should not be lionised or demonised. The specific task should be offered to another more qualified CMO. That would be professional. The politicised public is the problem, sadly
