Sadly the UK has fallen to hysteresis, behaviour dependent on stereotypes, history and fear. If you have a theory to slow the disease, or point out serious flaws in infection control, forget it. No one wants to know. Get them clapping proudly in the streets and you're a titan
But true. What is the media covering? Hand clapping. Thoroughly useless. Royals wishing us well. Useless.

Both can matter: getting policy & treatment as good as possible, and getting the service feeling supported (which they reasonably mightn’t, given some recent GBP behaviour) & the country supportive.
