Depends on use and duration. More than a crapshoot though.

25 patients in France and 100 in China is anecdotal evidence. Not saying their isn’t merit - but hyping it as some sort of silver bullet is magical thinking.

I agree on combo therapy. For chloroquine monotherapy there are more data and publications.

Fauci was clear - informed consent is key when choosing an untested therapy There is a difference between being hopeful or indeed optimistic and believing that this is a silver bullet and somehow a withheld treatment There will be many invented therapies - many will fail

Correct. And the combination is very much untested. The obvious risks of high dose chloroquine are there, as is the risk of C.dif from azithromycin. Very tough decisions to be made with that combo.

Also I worry that focusing resources on speculative therapies distracts from the exponential tsunami of cases the US will see I find exponential growth hard to visualize until I found this videohttps://twitter.com/Rainmaker1973/status/1048949428260937728?s=20 …

The numbers are scary. That said, empirical therapy need not distract from population based prevention

In theory - practice is another thing. Not to be chauvinist - but I could see suppression and therapy work well in the UK thanks to the NHS and a mature bureaucratic culture that can centrally collate information. The US is very siloed and I don’t see much top down leadership

The UK has not done well to date at all but is waking up. The USA really needs to be done by state governors. Asking POTUS to run this is unreasonable. Governors have a lot of powers.

The UK is always slow to rouse itself - but once going it tends to get its shit together The US is that confusing web that is federalism. Canada has it too. The federal government and FEMA in particular is the wireframe that states populate. You do need someone to bang heads
