Interesting. Two things to observe, 1) SM being profoundly dangerous to sample from, but many of the pro-unlicensed-doctor brigade are historically anti-NHS. 2) just what are these doctors going to do? Deal directly with coronavirus or pick up other things in medicine?

Ideally 2, to release docs currently working for more urgent work

Is coronavirus urgent? A lot of it is non-critical currently. And if it becomes more critical, how do retired doctors feel about Doug daily stuff which may have changed? This is back of a fag packet soundbite politics.

Genuinely. What would happen if we stopped testing except for those very ill? How sick are the 40 odd positives so far? Do you really need to know whether you have flu or Covid19? Home treatment is the same. Home. Fluids. Analgesia. Rest.

I think testing of pts with mild symptoms is not being done to change individual or management but to to better model the virus and detect spread early. All in order to allow better epidemiological management and policy measures.

1. Surveillance testing is valid for this reason. 2. Useful for seeing how many mild cases on presentation go on to deteriorate significantly. 3. This is very early days re: testing guidelines.
