If you buy a mutual fund you get rolling data, from 1 to 3 to 5 to 10 years. Buy/sell recommendations change. Why can't preferred treatment modalities float? Isn't a CABG or an LMS stent an investment? You cannot invest if you cannot evaluate previous investments.
