Think I'm in favour of a US presidential candidate promising a big R&D spend on thorium and fusion, despite the apparent nuclear tech fetishism. I think quite a few designs might manage to creep in under the definition. Scientists and engineers are adept at using right words
Is the fission fusion hydrib still a thing? Does it offer anything above fission commercially?

I think it probably could be a thing again if it needs to be a thing

I think fission-fusion hybrids are often inspired by a shortage of tritium in any realistic fusion reactor. Therefore if fusion is ever a thing, fission has a solid chance of being close by.

The cynic in me says it isn't often mentioned by fusion proponents as they would rather distance themselves - but that tritium will be necessary

Never heard of it but it looks like an unnecessary complication. Also, they don’t mention thorium but presumably it could also be used. https://www.power-technology.com/features/featurefusion-fission-hybrids-nuclear-shortcut-or-pipe-dream-5893935/ …
