Lowest antibiotic use rates are in EFTA countries, inside the EU Bulgaria and Slovakia consume massive amounts. Outside the Customs Union we can BAN abx resistant raw meat from entering the foodchain. And we should. The resistance spreads to human pathogens

Chickens are fed meds to stop them getting diseases from the atrocious conditions they are kept in. Keep them free range and outside and they don't need the meds.

Stocking density and quality of feed are both important, and also the fact vaccines are expensive yet there are PLENTY of these vaccines out there.

But outside the EU standards are worse, not better. The two eastern European countries you refer to are recent members and are still catching up with northern Europe.

The standard is national. So we can at least block imports from affected abattoirs or member states
