Dunno. We have seen smaller states weird far more influence than the UK in recent months. Just look at how Ireland's interests have been defended in the EU. But I guess you have got to know how to play the game. Britain, before its descent, used to be good at this stuff too.

Well that's unique and very transitional, and no doubt will bring consequences down the line. Little countries wagging the tail is what the EU is designed to prevent.

Most countries are little. Some are just littler than others. I get that Sturgeon is just saying stuff - well, she is a politician - but small and medium-sized states can and do take leadership roles in the EU, both formally and institutionally, and in diplomatic alliances.

but these are sentimental. Anything serious is done now by QMV so we'd find ourselves disatisfied very quickly. CFP reform? No chance without any block vote to horse trade. The smaller the member state the more it resembles a rule taking franchise
