OK. It's déjà vu all over again. A Spanish unionist has once again raised the prospect of vetoing Scotland's EU membership. He has also rehearsed some "back of the queue" rhetoric. Quick thread.https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/17575752.spanish-unionist-again-raises-prospect-of-scots-veto/ …

/ Sorry to bore everybody when there is an occasional outburst about Scotland from off stage. This time it is a gent called González Pons, of the PP. They're struggling in the polls ahead of this month's general election but with help of far right and ultra-unionists might win

/ I've veto chat is pretty narrow. González is saying his party would veto Scotland getting in EU if Brexit negotiations are still ongoing. I guess Brexit talks could be ongoing for a helluva long time, though.

/ González is also saying Scotland will have to form a queue behind Turkey and Serbia. This is rhetoric inspired by a widely shared but old video of Guy Verhofstadt staying "yeah" to a question asking if Scotland could get in the EU quickly.

/ Despite a lot of chat among Scottish politics types, Spain has never really looked at a veto. But its unionists did like the patter.https://www.heraldscotland.com/news/13054307.spain-we-wouldnt-block-scotlands-bid-to-join-eu/ …

/ Anyway, with the PP getting squeezed by the very unionist Ciudadanos and the openly far-right Vox, we might get more of this "Scotland and EU" patter over the next two weeks. Or might not.
