Just interviewed president of EFTA court, Carl Baudenbacher. He believes EFTA membership would probably solve Irish border issuehttps://twitter.com/skinnock/status/937764334566105090 …

EEA could solve it, hence EFTA court. EFTA alone would mean dozens of bilateral agreements.

Not EEA on its own as EEA members are NOT in the CU. Still border controls.

Rebranding the Customs Union as "regulatory...blah blah" doesn't give us frictionless trade even within the SM. NO/SE & DE/CH borders are where UK ends up. 100% clearance on every product, spot checks, duty payments & reconciliation. Why would UK be any better?

You would think these brexiters would get this by now.

We need VAT and RoO protocols. Other checks away from the border. SPS fudge. That gets us near-frictionless.

Sounds like unworkable nonsense outside the SM/CU & VAT-area. Even Norway & Switzerland clear 100% of products & they are effectively operating within the SM (in CH for goods). Duty is liable & so is import VAT at each crossing. Regulatory compliance will also be required.

Import VAT. One for you @PeteNorth303
