Huh? Nobody killed off nuclear power in the US. It priced itself out of competition. New builds became too expensive in the 80's and it died.

I am curious to know why you seem to prefer the ESBWR over other designs. Could you point me towards some information that compares BWRs with PWRs? Thanks.

In a BWR there is one steam generator, the fuel element itself. In a PWR that is shifted to outside the core. They run a bit hotter and a bit higher pressure than BWRs. What matters beyond anything else in a water cooled reactor is passive cooling. (Boiling consumes much heat)
