My parents were trained as doctors in Nigeria and have been working in the NHS for 30 years. A paediatrician and a surgeon. Healing children and physical ailments across Britain since 1988.
So what she said in this interview did not sit well with me.

Is that right what she said? That prospective British doctors are being stopped from becoming doctors due to immigration?

Our NHS has a staffing crisis. I've seen the effect of the strain of that crisis first hand my whole life. We are choosing not to fund the training of doctors to fill those gaps. We're also squeezing junior doctors' pay. The last thing we need is to lose the doctors who come here

@JuliaHB1 The biggest squeeze by far has been EU driven. The EWTD cut rotas to 48 hours from 60. 20% loss of salary through banding cuts; you now need 25% more junior docs to staff the same rota as ten years ago. 25% higher pension and training costs.1 antwoord 2 retweets 1 vind-ik-leuk -

Cutting rotas was desirable 56 hrs is still worked by many but no one wants the 80-120 hrs worked when I qualified when an A unit of OT was paid at 1/3 of base rate and B units at 1/5 of base ; the good old days not.

56 or 60 was doable, no problem. 75 plus was very 90s and included sleeping on call

A few of my colleagues never experienced the benefits mental breakdowns, leaving the ratrace, suicides and a few killed in RTAs after long shifts
