This is inhumane. My friend @TulipSiddiq should not have to do this.
Democracy is not properly served by this kind of cruelty. Theresa May could show compassion and allow Tulip to be nodded through.
#proxyvoting is long overdue.https://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/labour-mp-tulip-siddiq-delays-caesarean-for-brexit-vote-a4037946.html?amp&__twitter_impression=true …

Postponing a C section for two days is hardly risky. No doctor will advise anyone to do it, does not follow that it's harmful. Granted it makes for a great story, and maybe that's the point.

It isn't solely a case of whether it's risky or not. She shouldn't have to be wheeled through Parliament in a wheelchair whilst she's supposed to be on maternity leave because our system's too bloody outdated to allow a proxy vote.

So what's the point here? What's the issue. She is elected as a MP. As a PR stunt it works of course, but the idea postponing an elective c section for 2 days is a big thing is nonsense.

Can you give ONE valid reason why she should have to be there in person to vote?

Rules and sound ones. There are plenty of MP moonlighting elsewhere as it is. That they have to be there in person is essential to keep them focused on the job. A more robust and binding pairing system would be fine.
