As a doctor and an MP, I believe we need informed consent from the British public on Brexit – that's why I'm backing a Final Say | The Independenthttps://www.independent.co.uk/voices/brexit-latest-final-say-second-referendum-theresa-may-no-deal-eu-negotiations-a8627621.html …

If you were, at best, only half-convinced your suggested treatment was correct and it then became apparent there were previously unseen complications that could be very dangerous indeed to a patient you’d be wise to get a second opinion.
-
Correct, you let another surgeon take charge and proceed. You do not cancel the operation and wake the patient half way through.

We're not in mid surgery though. We're still waiting for pre-meds for a completely different procedure that the consultants promised at the time. We gave consent to a simple, risk free procedure which would cure us rapidly.
-
The surgeons have now decided behind closed doors that they will perform complex and dangerous surgery with a much lower prospect for a full recovery. Now we know they've changed the plan we need to consent again.
