Very pleased to receive overwhelming support at SNP Conference for Glasgow’s plans for a safe drug consumption facility. Reinforces that this idea - which was once radical - is now mainstream. We will keep up pressure on the Home Office.
The policy is the equivalent of sending alcoholics to the pub so they can "drink safely". The moment one examines the logic it falls apart.

No it isn’t, it is offering them a medically supervised facility where they can get clean needles, be saved if they OD and supported to engage with treatment services which they don’t engage with now due to the severity of their addiction & chaotic lives.

That can be done without any such facility. Naloxone can be given to such people. No reason to facilitate injecting drugs and maintain addiction

Well, like the pub this will be a place where people can safely use drugs. (Alcohol being the deadliest drug in the world). Look at alcohol prohibition in America. Didn't stop drinkers but in fact pushed them out into the streets and made them drink illegal unregulated moonshine

I have said nothing that would disagree with you. That said it is the appoach of those who would rather tidy addicts away to suffer rather than cure their illness. I would find simply putting alcoholics in a pub with a nurse on standby equally absurd.
