The same defence as any tradition, those who don't want it can refuse it and leave others alone to their own devices. There is no objective moral standpoint on animal husbandry beyond veganism, which is at least honest.

True but they were not for food. Cruelty is again subjective. Most pork could be banned on cruelty grounds if it suited folk.

Ive never bought that. Texture of meat will be different, though the flavour compounds would be the same, except for veal where feed input is very different.

Still some customers obviously think veal tastes ok. I found it bland and not in a way I found sophisticated but let people be.

I think honest food reviews of these "forbidden foods" does more harm to these industries than anything else. Foie gras? Quite nice, but then again a chicken liver pate is also very nice. I'm told whale tastes unpleasant by a Norwegian friend
