Massively so, unquestionably an unrivalled success. Chile went from communist to a leading economy. That he achieved this under military rule is even more profound given that he held a free election and surrended power peacefully. Chile has never looked back.

He wasn't pleasant. He took out a communist insurgency. Syngman Rhee and Colonel Park did too. As Asians they are forgotten. They helped turn communism back. The cold war was rough.
