The referendum which had a less than 4% majority for leaving the EU, but gave absolutely no details about how that was to be done? There is no one spirit of the referendum. People voted both ways for many reasons and with many understandings, hence the current chaos.

Wrong. France in 1992 voted 51% for the EU, Denmark 56% Finland 56.9% Sweden 50.9%. Tight margins are the norm. If the vote had been done on a constituency basis two thirds of seats would be Leave. The vote was to leave, that's enough. It was enough for others to join
