I know there can't be a referendum on it, but isn't it the democratic choice? That the majority of people would rather limit the number of deaths even if it has a significant impact on the economy. The alternative is one that politicians recognise is unacceptable to the public.

Those aren't the only two options. Why not isolate the vulnerable, hand out chloroquine like sweeties, and let the rest of the country carry on as normal and soldier through? Shutting down the economy and a massive government power grab is looking increasingly deliberate.

You're absolutely right, Jon. People are too gripped with fear to see it at the moment, but the economic and social damage caused by the response to the virus is off the scale. We'll be suffering from the response to coronavirus long after the virus is a distant memory.
