time! How do we generate the right muscle commands to grasp objects? We present a neural network model that replicates the vision to action pipeline for grasping objects and shows internal activity very similar to the monkey brain.

The brain is great at exploiting its high dimensionality to avoid something that a lot of neural networks are bad at, ‘catastrophic forgetting.’ We automatically learn new skills without messing up old ones.

If your state space is high dimensional most things are orthogonal.

Very happy to share our new preprint! Animals have a remarkable capacity to learn new motor skills, but how does learning change neural population dynamics underlying movement?

Reminder that nature doesn’t care how easy it is for us to study what’s going on on the brain, whether it’s spikes (hard) or synaptic plasticity (extremely hard).

Just submitted a review where I made sure to let the authors know why there paper was awesome, not just my problems with it. Be kind!

Excited to give a talk today on ANML: Learning to Continually Learn. Recording available soon. If you are curious about ANML now, here is a NeurIPS talk I gave that covers it (amongst other things). Talk today is at the SF summit

Amazing that I just spent 4 months rewriting a manuscript so that I could appeal a rejection in order to maybe have the chance to argue against a huge set of arbitrary reviewer comments so that more reviewers can write new ones and then I'll answer those, but that's science.

VERY important paper from Logothetis' group just posted on about decoding consciousness in PFC in monkeys during a no-report paradigm. VERY critical data for current debates in awareness.

Predictive Routing: "There are no special error-detection circuits or mechanisms." There are instead pathways that are gated by predictions and thus can be activated by unexpected inputs. Amazing monkey electrophysiology work by Andre Bastos
