Tomorrow, the will launch its first pothole repair blitz of the year to keep our roads in a state of good repair. City crews will work a 12-hour shift, from 6AM-6PM, to repair as many potholes as possible across the city.

While many City priorities were impacted by the pandemic, we’ve continued to make progress and we are on track to achieve our 2022 Near-Term Implementation Plan target of 100km of bikeways built by the end of 2024.

Given these very real concerns, I was fully in favour of extending the pilot. Now that the pilot is permanent, I will be following up with City staff to make sure the improvements and changes we requested today are made as soon as possible.

Today, we supported a number of immediate changes to the Yonge Street bike lanes that I hope will improve them and address concerns raised by many residents. This is about building the best streets possible and trying to make sure neighbourhoods are part of that process.

Extending the Yonge Street pilot wouldn't have taken out these bike lanes – in fact, when I met with residents just last week I was clear the 'remove' option isn't on the table.

I want to be clear that I support bike lanes and safe cycling infrastructure and getting them built in the best way possible – so that they are ultimately welcomed by neighbourhoods. That's how we make progress.
