  1. The Norton owner Stuart Garner, amongst other things, claimed that financial doors were shut b/c of Brexit. Could be some truth in that. There are now just eight weeks for the administrator to find a buyer, which may be a Chinese or Indian company.

  2. A bit more info has come to light about the demise of Norton. Some £20m has been swallowed, compromising £14m from various private sector "investors", some £2m in customers deposits etc and a very generous £4m from the taxpayer, via .

  3. UK: Business: Superficially, this is a bad post-Brexit omen but some basic business mistakes were made by the owner over the past few years, which could be summarised as per "Cashflow is king.":

What is to be the fate of the GBP? It might not have been appreciated that whilst the UK was in the EU the GBP was indirectly linked to the euro, in that sense that the strength of the latter kind of sheltered the former via the EU. Now the GBP floats free.

UK: Post-Brexit/Third Country: Reading the runes. An interim EU27 "deal" of some sort should've been done by end of the year & six months later, we'll be able to gauge how the next few years will shape up. In the meantime, hunkering down seems prudent.

EU: The Money: Think its correct that (now) just nine Member States (MS) are "in surplus" and cross-subsidise the other eighteen MS. Superficially, that does not seem like a sustainable situation. And indirectly provides the UK with some trade leverage.

Brexit: Today is the last day of EU membership, so quiet reflection. In the end, the English just wanted their England back. And they are now going to get it.

UK: The Remains of the Day: This is almost exactly what should've happened in the Remain campaign to push a few of the emotional buttons. But then again, would it have made a difference? After all, even the murder of an MP didn't shift the EUref outcome:

IT: Adm: Sometimes its just the simplest things - y'day walked into an office, end-user working on a laptop complained that WiFi was slow. Saw the router was actually perched on corner of his desk. In a cupboard, found an ethernet cable - jobs a good 'un.

UK: Politics: TB has a very engaging positivity, with some profound wisdom about the future for the country. He is still a masterful politician:

EU: It's going to be a footnote now but if it wasn't for the egos of politicians like Sarkozy getting in the way then TB would probably have become President of the EU (and Cherie Empress of Europe):

Twitter: Since joining in 2009 have now generated some 37k tweets and there are at least two that, on reflection, were "ill-advised". But it seems wrong to delete them even if they're a bit embarrassing. Honesty is the best Twitter policy.

UK: Agriculture: It had seemed that one clear benefit of leaving the EU would be dumping the CAP. However, it seems the policy itself contained much flexibility, the UK Govt let the decisions on how to allocate CAP resources to the four devolved admins:

UK: Politics: A pattern is emerging from the UK Govt with respect to the devolved Govts and business in the lead up to PD negotiations with the EU27 - it is in pretending but actually "not listening" mode. A bad omen.

EU SM/CU: And pretty much on cue, Barnier emphasizes the point, the EU will not allow its internal market to be compromised. In this case, via any UK-NI backdoor:

EU SM/CU: This (below) is exactly why the EU jealously guards its market via standards, rules and regulations. It cannot allow food standards to be compromised and thus trash the integrity of its internal market. Only in the Wild West do they eat lead:

EU: If the EU had any meaningful power over its Member States it would have forced the British Govt to address and properly fund the several regions of England that were amongst the most deprived in Northern Europe. Anyway, its all on Westminster now:
