I share your concern for families being separated. However, families are separated every day when a parent goes to prison for breaking the law. You can call it whatever you wan but these are illegal immigrants. I teach & love their children but they still need to follow the law.

It is not illegal to request asylum at the border.
-
Then, legally request asylum. Sneaking across the border is not legal.
-
They are separating children from people who are requesting asylum. That’s the point. And it’s Trumps policy; it isn’t a law.
-
I agree with those that want a compromise and I believe there is one. But if we are going to disregard this law, why not disregard all laws. Who’s place is it to pick and choose?
-
THERE. IS. NO. LAW. Trump employed a 'zero tolerance' policy and is using taking children from parents as leverage to get money for his wall. What type of parent crosses the border w/ their kids in tow? Those fearing for their lives and seeking asylum.
-
It's also not a crime to seek asylum.

Why didn’t you say this when Obama was president because this is his law
-
Dear Danny, It is NOT Obama’s law. This happened during the Bush baby administration.
-
Actually I was wrong it wasn’t Obama’s law it the Bill Clinton’s law.

No, it’s not. That is a statement people make when they can’t, or don’t want to, have an honest argument.
-
What’s your argument Todd? That toddlers should be separated from their parents? That’s the appropriate punishment for their parent’s “crimes” ?
-
I’d start by asking if we agree that whatever policy we enact will influence the behavior of other would-be illegal aliens. Can we agree that fundamental principle?
-
I don’t agree. You think people crossing the border on foot, are doing it for fun? Many are already risking death by even making the voyage.
-
You’ve missed the point. Also, you don’t seem to know about first-country asylum. If we open our doors w/o restriction to those who have already passed thru one or two safe countries w/o having claimed asylum, do you think more or fewer will follow?
-
Even if there is a deterrent value to this policy are you comfortable with the price being children separated from their parents? Kasich is not, I’m not. If you start executing people for speeding it may reduce speeding, but the cost would be unacceptable
