Throughout the pandemic the government took the difficult decision to support our rail workers at the cost of £600 per household to keep the trains running.
Today, the RMT goes on strike, refusing an 8pc pay rise. I urge Labour to call off their Union bosses and negotiate.

Boris Johnson was removed for a reason. Those issues have not changed and we must look forward and not back.
Rishi Sunak is the most qualified candidate to provide leadership to navigate through the deep economic challenges we face. He will deliver stability, growth and prosperity and unite our country #ReadyForRishi
Today Labour have made another economic u-turn – this time on tax. You can’t trust a word they say – they break every promise they make.
I have been resolute in my commitment to support since I reluctantly resigned from the government on 6 July. 🧵⬇️
I have written to the Shadow Chancellor, setting out my concerns with Labour's economic plans which would increase taxes and borrowing, and fail to grip the inflation challenge.
I'm backing to be our next Prime Minister. I have seen first-hand that he has the necessary intellect and integrity to be the fresh start the country needs. #Ready4Rishi

It is right that we are creating a bespoke route to citizenship for BN(O)s in light of the Chinese government’s recent decisions - we remain committed to honouring our historic agreements and will continue to support the people of Hong Kong.

Today I updated the House on the grave and disturbing situation in Hong Kong. We will continue to bring together our international partners to stand up for the people of Hong Kong, to call out the violation of their freedoms, and to hold China to their international obligations.
Delighted that Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Borishov were able to see the world-class attractions that #Salisbury has to offer. But very strange to come all this way for just two days while carrying Novichok in their luggage. (1/2)
Very pleased to be reappointed by the Prime Minister as Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister. I've thoroughly enjoyed the last 18 months in the role and look forward to keep fighting for the City and for financial inclusion.
I'm very pleased to hear that Detective Sergeant Nick Bailey has been discharged from hospital. I wish him and his family well as he recovers from this appalling incident. Everyone in Salisbury owes him a debt of gratitude for the bravery he has shown in the line of duty.
In politics passionately held competing views are expected but the Leader of the Opposition’s words in Parliament today, when my constituents are in hospital suffering the effects of nerve agents derived from Russia, was repugnant. Thank you to Labour MPs who offered support.
New data today shows over 8m vulnerable households have received £1200 this year to help with rising prices.
We’ll continue to tackle inflation and support people, with more payments coming next year.

We've got plans to make the UK the most open and dynamic financial centre in the world - and we're getting on with them.
The Labour Party continues to boast about economic competence but cannot answer basic questions to show their sums add up. I have written to again so she can explain which taxes she will raise and how much will be borrowed for their unfunded social housing plan.
To all the frontline staff in branches and contact centres working tirelessly to provide customers & businesses with the essential banking services they need during #coronavirus - THANK YOU 👏 My letter to you 👇 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl
Last week I wrote to outlining concerns with Labour’s £28bn per year unfunded spending pledge. Today she announced a change in policy. The electorate should be under no illusions; this is not a U-turn. This is a different timetable for the same reckless spending.
It is clear that the Labour Party cannot make up their mind about how to fund their inflation raising policies. Today I wrote to to press her again to answer some simple questions about her economic plan.
This morning I was delighted to attend my first Cabinet meeting after being appointed yesterday as Chief Secretary to the Treasury. It's a privilege to be back in the Treasury and serve in the government once again.

Salisbury welcomes tourists from around the world and is very much open for business. But the Petrov/Borishov statements are not credible and don't match the widely accepted intelligence we have on these individuals. (2/2)
Our new plan for immigration rebalances our asylum system making it more efficient and fairer on British taxpayers. The message from the Prime Minister, , is clear: if you enter the UK illegally, you cannot stay here.
Delighted to be reappointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury and City Minister. It's an important year ahead for financial services and it's a privilege to continue serving in the government. (1/2)
When I announced the Government would accept the recommendations of the independent public sector pay review bodies, could not bring themselves to welcome this from the despatch box. I’ve written to to ask if she supports the government’s decision.
Delighted to be promoted to Minister of State and continue alongside as EST and City Minister as we expand opportunity for our world-leading financial services industry. Look forward to welcoming , and to Horse Guards!
Deeply saddened to hear that Dawn Sturgess has died at Salisbury District Hospital. I can assure the people of South Wiltshire that the police will be given all necessary resources to find out exactly what has transpired and bring those responsible to justice.
Desperately concerned for the welfare of the many passengers and drivers involved in the two-train crash and derailment at Fisherton tunnel outside Salisbury. The trapped driver has now been released - thank you to all the emergency services for their coordinated efforts

Five years ago, Sergei and Yulia Skripal were the target of a shocking attack by Putin on UK soil in Salisbury.
Very sad news today to hear of the passing of Robert Key. For 27 years in Parliament he represented the people of Salisbury with dedication, distinction, and a strong ethos of public service. (1/4)
I was delighted to visit the Salisbury Foodbank today to learn more about their operations. I was encouraged to hear about their new partnership with Citizens Advice. During the visit, I joined staff and volunteers to observe a minute of silence for Armistice Day.
My thoughts and prayers this evening are with my constituent Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. We still do not know all the facts but we do know that a terrible human tragedy took place on the streets of Salisbury on Sunday.
Thank you Frank Field - your visit to Salisbury to show solidarity with my constituents will be greatly appreciated
It's completely unfair for someone to be hit by a hidden fee just before they are about to make a purchase. From tomorrow, the Government is scrapping card surcharges everywhere - online and in shops.

Now is not the time for leadership challenges - it is time to support the PM as she seeks to secure the best possible deal to honour the outcome of the referendum and safeguard jobs in this country. The PM has proved her resilience and she will do so again today.
The first priority of any new government in the coming weeks and months must be to provide security to the most vulnerable people in our society. Tax cuts won’t do that, ’s plan will.

Honesty and integrity matter in this election. We have to be honest about the challenges we face, challenges of which the British people are already aware. is being honest about the cracks in the road on the journey ahead - and he’s got the best plan to fix it.
I’ll be supporting the Prime Minister’s deal today. It honours the referendum and ensures stability as we leave. Neither alternative—no Brexit or no deal—does that. Voting against would be irresponsible and a risk too far when certainty is what our country needs most. #BrexitVote
Very pleased with the Prime Minister's statement on Salisbury this afternoon. We will respond appropriately to this despicable act and make it crystal clear there will be consequences for those who attempt to murder innocent people on British soil.
Congratulations to Rishi Sunak. I know he will focus the Government on delivering stability, growth and prosperity as he leads us through the many challenges we face. A man of humility and ability who will uphold the highest standards in public life as PM

The Treasury has inaccurately been accused of wasting billions of pounds. This is not true and the proposed measures come with huge economic risks and could undermine the Bank of England’s independence.
A short thread:
Taxpayers rightly expect govt to run efficiently & effectively. To do that we must root out the waste & focus on people's priorities. As Chief Secretary I'll weigh every pound before it’s spent so we deliver for the British public.
