Let's keep in mind that when it comes to progressives, the only ones who struggle with this are White progressives. One reason is because they ignore the history of unionism as a force for increasing inequality between White people and POC.

As a child of a multi-generational union family, I object to the appropriation of the term “union” by organizations whose want to insulate their members from accountability. Despite the propaganda from the right over the last 4 or 5 decades, that’s not what unions are about.

The fact that they are union members has always meant very little to me--their responsibilities and duties lie with protecting capital, not labor. They will never, ever, ever care more about poverty than they care about property.
