I maintain this NBA/China scandal is not even the most outrageous part of the story. The real scandal is ESPN, the "worldwide leader in sports" journalism actively running interference on the story. Largely because: https://twitter.com/JayCostTWS/status/1181765029806387200 …

      A) ESPN invested heavily in the NBA, with broadcasting rights and a need to protect the brand because of their investment.

      B) They make a non-significant portion of that investment back on NBA-related advertisers like Nike, who are *heavily* invested in China, both in market concerns and production infrastructure.

and C) ESPN is owned by Disney, which is a corporation that depends on the Chinese market (and bows to their censorship) for their entertainment properties like Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and Disney Studios.

This is the real scandal. The default American sports journalism entity, that has completely bowed to a communist government, to protect their market share and investments. What the NBA has done is bad. What ESPN has done *to protect them* should make every American sick.

Who would have though it? The new ESPN head mandated ESPN stay "out of politics." Obviously, he meant US electoral politics. We all cheered. Apparently, he also meant don't criticize the gulag, torture state that helps us break even on exorbitant domestic NBA contracts we signed.

Americans call for freedom of speech, and when freedom touches their bottom line, they resist freedom of speech. When they are free to touch the bottom line of other countries, they say freedom of speech. Hypocritical Americans.

The only solution is for the American fans to stop going to games. Stop purchasing their merchandise. Stop watching their games on ESPN or any other network. This was about money, so let’s make it about OUR money, not THEIR money!
