I get it now. Social media hasn't made us miserable because we can see how awful other people are. We have always been awful. All of us, all of the time.

Hitler and Stalin and Mao were humans. We are also humans. To think we dont have the capacity to be like them is dangerous naivety. They were the logical ends to their ideologies, and if we arent aware of how they got there because we removed them from memory, it wont end well

I think it's better this way. It looks pretty clear that it's old, so nobody will really be able to say otherwise. And it clearly being old drives the point home much better imo.
