After being told a week ago that a Maryland police officer charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a handcuffed man was offered a plea deal, the victim’s family has now been notified that prosecutors plan to proceed with the trial.

The Maryland Senate passed its first bill of the session 46-0 on Monday. The bill would require Gov. Wes Moore to fund the state's 988 suicide and crisis hotline with $12M in 2025.
The bill now heads to the House of Delegates for consideration.

In 2014, Maryland's General Assembly passed legislation to exempt estates (and the heirs to them) valued at under $5 million from taxation. This handout to Maryland's richest families has exacerbated our fiscal challenges and harmed our schools, cities, and healthcare system.
