That’s not what defunding the police means. That’s not what the word “defund” means. To defund is to stop paying for something, entirely.

Even if we were to fully defund the police (which may be the best avenue), we would replace it with alternative programs that do a better job, one of which would be a much smaller and properly trained group authorized to use force in those rare cases that need it.

Yes, exactly. A smaller, better trained, properly accountable, and MUCH LESS LIKELY TO ABUSE THEIR POWER "police" that can tackle only the most extreme cases. Glad you get it.

Surely improving police training and standards can be done without defunding the current police force and creating a high risk power vacuum in the interim and possibly with this new force
