The words Frederick Douglass offered regarding Abraham Lincoln gives me chills as I listen to them read 155 years later. Lincoln’s genius was in skillfully dragging a recalcitrant and racist country out of the mud and then laying the foundation of a more perfect union.

On April 14, 1865, Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. He died the next day at 7:22 am. In his speech at Lincoln’s funeral, Frederick Douglass offered both high praise and sharp criticism of the late president's legacy.

"Hitchens argued that there would always be 'powerful enemies' of the Enlightenment, and he decided that defeating those enemies and defending the open society was worthwhile...He recognized this 'necessitated constant argument about the idea of America.'”

As Willie points out, this comes in as #5 on the American Film Institute’s top 100 movies of all time—only behind Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Wedding Crashers, and Anchorman. Gone With The Wind is #6 behind The Other Guys. Old School sits at #9.

Listen @JoeNBC and @morningmika and @WillieGeist, don’t sleep on Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg’s “The Other Guys”. Outpaces “Casablanca” and blows “Gone With The Wind” out of the water. Joe, have the oxygen ready.

One of my websites has been hacked and I’ve been trying unsuccessfully for 24 hours to find a human being that works at Word Press to fix the redirect issue. The same can be said of Go Daddy, who still allows the hacked site to stay up. How does Word Press stay in business?

Trump Republicans 2017: Lose 2018: Lose 2019: Lose (even governor races in Louisiana and Kentucky) 2020: Lose 2022: Lose (McCarthy down 40 seats from his House prediction). In a year Democrats should have been routed.

They lose elections, keep churning up conspiracy theories, lose more elections, spew even more bizarre nonsense inside their bubble, keep losing elections, double down on Trump, continue losing elections, get even crazier, watch Biden’s approval ratings go up, and go bonkers🤣

Literally every word of this is unintelligible nonsense from people who live in a rightwing infotainment conspiracy bubble. Then they wonder why they struggle in midterm or presidential elections with normal people. twitter.com/tomselliott/st…

Republicans blew an historic opportunity this midterm election because the massive BUBBLE they lived in that made their candidates and conspiracy theories unpalatable to swing voters, who also had little use for progressives of the Democratic Party.

An laughable take on ideological “bubbles”. The writer argues progressives live in elite bubbles (many do), but that it’s impossible to do so on the right. Funny that many old friends and relatives are election-denying, anti-vax, QAnon quoting bubbleheads. wsj.com/articles/why-t

Imagine being so blinded by your ideological bubble that you could argue the right-wing cannot live in bubbles despite 6 years of blindly following conspiracy theories on election deniers, QAnon hoaxes, hateful Sandy Hook lies, & the latest nonsense from Chinese religious cults.

Sports illustrated fired him for challenging their pay cuts during the pandemic. He ran to unseat FIFA’s president. He challenged human rights abuses in Qatar. RIP Grant Wahl, who’s career was as much about great reporting as it was about speaking truth to abusive power.
