Those suggesting the AR-15 was NOT developed as a weapon of war should read up on history. The AR-15 was developed as a military weapon to replace the M-14. Eugene Stoner designed it to be lighter and more lethal than the M-14. It was far deadlier than the M-16 used in Vietnam.

At long last, I have reached a point of agreement with : I, too, believe that “guns designed as weapons of war” are not covered by the #2A. Therefore, I declare my firm opposition toward making Howitzers, Paladins, and 60mm mortars available to the public. Who’s with me?

Can you tell me what militaries issue semi-automatic AR-15s to their troops? Also, can you give me some examples of military long arms and civilian long arms circa 1780s? Please explain any differences between them and how the civilian version might be less lethal.
